Coconut Filled Bun

Turnovers are traditionally simple in shape, the basket weave is where this recipe earns its "twist." Thin strips of the bun dough are laid over the filled centre in a woven pattern, the same technique used for lattice-top pies, but wrapped around a bun rather than laid flat. The result is a golden, textured top that bakes up with beautiful contrast — deeper brown where the strips overlap, lighter where the filling peeks through underneath.
